35th Anniversary of the Bhopal Tragedy, the World's Worst Industrial Disaster

On the 35th anniversary of the poisoning disaster in Bhopal, India, where thousands of people were immediately killed and hundreds of thousands of people injured from exposure to a leak of methyl isocyanate and other gases, the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB), Pesticide Action Network (PAN) and other organizations are demanding action:

ICJB demands compensation, criminal punishment, health care and research, rehabilitation, and clean up. Shockingly, thousands of Bhopal survivrors never received compensation for the injuries they suffered and contaminated soil and groundwater surrounding the abandoned pesticide factory where the disaster occurred have still not been properly remediated. Pesticide Action Network Asia and Pacific: Today, on the 35th anniversary of the Bhopal tragedy and "World No Pesticide Use Day," PAN released a documentary exposing the continued poisoning of children from toxic pesticides. This video was created to commemorate and remember the Bhopal Tragedy and the struggle of the survivors for Justice in Bhopal. To help protect children from toxic pesticides, PAN Asia Pacific is calling for a pesticide-free buffer zone of at least one kilometer around schools. It is also pushing for a legally-binding international mechanism to ban Highly Hazardous Pesticides.
