The SAICM Global Outreach Campaign aims to raise awareness about the harms of toxic chemicals, plus engage and broaden the base of civil society groups working on issues related to the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
Recognizing that the SAICM provides an opportunity to advance non-governmental organization (NGO) and civil society organization (CSO) campaigns related to protecting human and environmental health, a collective group of representatives from six international NGO networks active in the development and implementation of SAICM initiated the Global Outreach Campaign and the Common Statement, with the aim to collect over 1,000 NGO/CSO endorsements from more then 80 countries.
Important outputs of this Campaign include the educational materials on SAICM, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Highly Hazardous Pesticides (shown on the right), as well as the Citizen's Report- Global Outreach Campaign on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
Following the Campaign, IPEN updated its NGO Guide to SAICM, and later produced a more extensive Citizen's Report – Implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) by IPEN Participating Organizations 2009- 2012
IPEN gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the European Commission, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Environment Canada, the Swedish Ministry of the Environment and others to this Campaign.
