SAICM Global Outreach Campaign Committee
The concept of the SAICM Global Outreach Campaign was first introduced at the 2006 General Assembly of IPEN, but it was not until late 2007 that initial funding was secured to coordinate an Outreach Planning Committee and begin Campaign development.
The SAICM Global Outreach Campaign was developed by a group of international network representatives that form the Campaign Committee. Each of these international networks participated in SAICM preparation meetings as well as the International Conference on Chemicals Management in Dubai in 2006, where more than one hundred governments, together with NGOs and other stakeholders, adopted a global policy and strategy called the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
The non-governmental organization (NGO) networks that prepared the Campaign's Common Statement are all registered with the SAICM Secretariat as NGO focal points; all have agreed to help build broad civil society support for the Strategic Approach from the perspective of public health and environmental advocacy.
In addition to IPEN, the Campaign Committee consists of representatives from the following international NGO networks:
- Health Care Without Harm (HCWH);
- International Society of Doctors for the Environment, (ISDE);
- Pesticide Action Network International (PAN);
- Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF);
- World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA);
