Why should your organization endorse the Common Statement?
By endorsing the Common Statement your organization is joining in this global effort to work for a future where exposure to toxic chemicals is no longer a source of harm, and to commit, along with other NGO and civil society organizations, to the SAICM goal: "to achieve the sound management of chemicals throughout their life cycle so that, by 2020, chemicals are used and produced in ways that lead to the minimization of significant adverse effects on human health and the environment."
The NGO/CSO Global Common Statement on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management is part of a Global Outreach Campaign to raise awareness about the harms of toxic chemicals, plus engage and broaden the base of civil society groups working on issues related to the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
The concept of the SAICM Global Outreach Campaign was first introduced at the 2006 General Assembly of IPEN, but it was not until late 2007 that initial funding was secured to coordinate an Outreach Planning Committee and begin Campaign development.

Statement of the IPEN Participating Organizations agreed in conjunction with the Conference of Plenipotentiaries for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Any non-governmental organization can join the IPEN by signing the Stockholm Declaration.
