CJGEA Members Harassed and Threatened in Kenya, Child Kidnapped
Yesterday we released a press release (see below) about a member of CJGEA Mr. Alfred Ogola who was almost burned with his family in his house, and nothing has been done. We also talked about the attacks on other CJGEA members.
Today, a member of CJGEA Mr. Wilfred Kamencu's son has been kidnapped. Mr. Kamencu has been at the police station all morning. The fear our members are living in is at an extreme.
We need the government to investigate this and ensure CJGEA members are being protected. We are also calling on the government to please find Mr. Kamencu's son as soon as possible.
We have been making urgent calls to action to the DPP for weeks now, and nothing has been done. We are urging the DPP to step in, investigate this, and ensure that our people are protected and don't go on living in fear.
Yours sincerely,
Phyllis Omido
Executive Director
Center for Justice Governance and Environmental Action
19 February: After the service notice in the Standard Newspaper on 2nd February, 2017, serving Metal Refinery EPZ Ltd and Penguin paper and book company for the Owino Uhuru Class Action Litigation Case, CJGEA members have been harassed and threated continuously. Miss Omido has had to vacate with her family because her safety is at risk. Mzee Ogola Owino Uhuru, village elder and a member of Center for Justice Governance and Environmental Action's, house was almost burnt down last night, he barely escaped with his life. He had to move with his family at night and slept at the police station.
Miss Anastacia Nambo has also been threatened, she is living in fear and has not been able to sleep at her house for almost a week. Mr Kamencu, another member of CJGEA was attacked and is also living in fear.
CJGEA member cannot stay in their homes anymore and because of security reasons they have had to relocate. This constant threat and harassment is criminal and we are asking the DPP to step in, investigate this and ensure that our people are protected and don't go on living in fear.
