International Anti-Fracking Summit – Not Here, Not Anywhere

Friends of the Earth Europe, Earthworks, Stop the Frack Attack, Food & Water Watch and Attac France organized an “International Anti-Fracking Summit – Not Here, Not Anywhere” in Paris on 10 December, 2015.

The gathering brought together more than 130 anti-fracking activists from 40 different countries and 5 continents to discuss news from anti-fracking communities around the world and ways forward in the efforts to mobilize resistance to fracking.

Letter to the Editor Regarding Fracking Risk

IPEN has joined other NGO representatives, doctors and professors in a letter to the editor in support of Friends of the Earth (FoE) UK and in response to a pro-fracking article in The Times (UK). The article quotes Cuadrilla, an oil and gas exploration and production company with headquarters and operations in the United Kingdom, who disparages Friends of the Earth’s assertions that silica, which is sometimes used in fracking operations, has been shown to pose a silicosis and lung cancer risk.

IPEN Expert Is “Voice of Reason” on Fracking at Helsinki Chemicals Forum

Dr. Mariann Lloyd-Smith, IPEN senior policy adviser, debated the dangers of fracking chemicals against lawyers from oil and gas giant Halliburton and representatives of the Europe and UK chemical industry at the Helsinki Chemical Forum earlier this year.

The session moderator, from the Organization of Economic and Cooperation Development (OECD), complimented Dr. Lloyd-Smith afterwards, saying, “you are the voice of reason.’”
