Reduce & Eliminate & Replace Mercury in Healthcare Facilities

Environmental Protection & Sustainable Development (EPSDS) orchestrated a workshop with the Akram Red Crescent Medical Center and the Syrian Red Crescent to discuss the future management of mercury-containing equipment and to decide on a policy for providing mercury-free healthcare equipment and materials. The workshop yielded a signed statement from medical staff and Red Crescent leadership to agree to : 1) make an inventory of mercury-containing medical equipment and dental filling material, and 2) agreement on a concrete plan for replacing all mercury-containing equipment and dental filling material with alternatives.
