IPEN Participating Organization MAMA-86 organized a press briefing with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health today in Kiev entitled: “Health without compromises – Ukraine’s Ministry of Health prohibits the use of asbestos and products containing it” to announce that Ukraine had formally banned asbestos. The event was addressed by Oksana Syvak, Deputy Minister for Public Health and European Integration, Olga Tsyguleva, Coordinator of the Program on Chemical Safety for MAMA-86, and Oleksil Shumilo, Head of Kharkiv City NGO “EcoPravo-Kharkiv.”

Mercury country situation report and awareness-raising on SAICM implementation in Ukraine

In this project, Ukrainian NGO MAMA-86-Kharkov researched the country situation as regards to mercury (its use, relevant laws, environmental and health hazards, etc.), and shared their findings at a conference they convened: "Chemical education in the context of chemical safety: the problem and prospects." During this conference, the seminar "Problems and prospects for the national implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)” took place.
