The IPEN Francophone Africa Hub, Centre de Recherche et d’Education pour le Développement (CREPD) organized its second regional meeting from the 30thto 31stMay 2019 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The last Francophone Africa Regional meeting took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon in December 2016. This meeting was an opportunity to share experiences and build the capacities of Participating Organizations (POs). The meeting was attended by POs from the Francophone Africa region, the Regional Coordinators of the Anglophone Africa and North Africa & Middle East hubs, and an IPEN Co-Chair.

Côte d’Ivoire Moves to Ratify Minamata Convention, Ban Lead in Paints

Strong indication that Côte d’Ivoire will soon join the committee of nations that had ratified the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the global Convention that seeks to prevent human and physical environment from mercury pollution has emerged as the country is already finalising its papers towards submission to the Convention secretariat.

Be Conscious of Mercury Effects

JVE Cote Divoire conducted an awareness-raising campaign to educate workers, governent officials, and the general public about the risks of mercury exposure from human activity in the country. These activities include mining, burning of e-waste and medical wastes, and the use of cosmetics containing mercury. This was done in four phases: First, workers most at risk to mercury exposure were convened and educated about objectives of the project and the means used for its realization.
