Monitoring community exposure to PCBs located at the Meralco Pasig Central Service Station.
The project assessed the Meralco Pasig Central Service Station storage site containing about 14,000 liters of liquid PCBs and 5,000 cubic meters of PCB-contaminated soil. The facility borders the Pasig River and an urban poor community. AGHAM conducted soil, sediment and water sampling outside the facility. Unfortunately, low assay sensitivity preventing conclusive assessment of the area. Workers at the facility claimed that Meralco has no active program of informing its workers about the hazards of exposure to PCBs.
Outputs:
Sampling of soil, sediment and water
Analysis for nine PCB congeners
Interviews with local residents
