Egg sampling for by-product POPs.

This activity produced a template hotspot report required from NGOs as a part of the global sampling of eggs from chickens raised near hotspots for production of by-product POPs; dioxins, furans, PCBs and HCB. The report was used to show other NGOs an example of the needed background information for the globally coordinated project. The study collected existing data and generated new data on dioxin and furan contamination of free-range chicken eggs collected near a hazardous waste incinerator in Lysa nad Labem. Levels were 5.0 WHO TEQ/g of fat in a pooled sample, nearly twice the European Union limit.
