Community and Workplace Monitoring in Tanzania

Community and workplace monitoring as a tool for the identification of POPs exposures.

The activity involved training farmers on aspects of the Stockholm Convention and POPs chemicals, status of Convention implementation in Tanzania, handling of chemicals, and data/information interpretation. The training involved 20 trainees from flower farms and one agricultural extension officer. The extension officer later trained 20 farmers in Arumeru District prior to field-information collection. The project activity demonstrated that farmers and workers can play a significant role in chemicals management. It also aimed at demonstrating capacities of civil society organizations in the implementation of the Stockholm, Rotterdam, ILO and other related conventions
