Highly Hazardous Pesticides in Jamaica

The Caribbean Poison Information Network (CARPIN) reveals in this telling report on Highly Hazardous Pesticides in Jamaica that HHPs account for 32% of the registered active ingredients in the country. Other countries have banned 66 pesticide active ingredients registered in Jamaica, including three pesticides not approved in the European Union. CARPIN asserts that Jamaica needs to shift to a more sustainable agricultural practice that can enhance human health and the environment while simultaneously creating an economic gain and concludes the report with recommendations to assist with the phasing out of HHPs.

This report relates to Sustainable Development Goals 2, 3, 6, 8, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

Special thanks to IPEN's Latin America & the Caribbean Regional Coordinator Fernando Bejarano and Regional Hub RAPAM for their essential contributions to the development and finalization of the project.
