Africa Lead Elmination Project

Lead in Paint Infographic global week 2016

IPEN’s African Lead Paint Elimination Project was a 3 year project, from 2014 through 2017, to eliminate lead in paint in four countries: Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast and Tanzania.

Activities of the project included analyzing paint for lead content; building public awareness; engaging paint manufacturers; and collaborating with government to develop and enact lead paint regulatory controls. The Project also included enhanced replication activities in additional African countries, including paint analysis in a limited number of countries; two African regional meetings; and advise and support to NGO and/or governments for start-up activities in other African countries.

The IPEN Participating Organizations were:

  • Centre de Recherche et d'Education pour le Développement (CREPD) (Cameroon)
  • Jeunes Volontaires pour l'Environnement (JVE) (Côte d'Ivoire)
  • Pesticide Action Nexus Association (PAN) (Ethiopia)
  • AGENDA for Environment and Responsible Development (AGENDA) (Tanzania)

The Project was funded by the Global Environment Facility with the United Nations Environment Program as the Implementing Agency and IPEN as the Executing Agency.
